Informal education: the key to success or a waste of time?

Informal education: the key to success or a waste of time?

On October 30, 2023, the university held a debate among students on the topic: "Informal education: the key to success or a waste of time?". Changing technological processes and the transition to a new industrial revolution require absolutely new skills and qualifications of the workforce, which, accordingly, dictates the need, in addition to improving the system of training young personnel, the development of non-formal education to improve the skills of the current workforce.
So, two teams took part in the debate: affirmations and denials. The approval team defended the view that government and social partners should jointly develop and implement a new generation of lifelong learning skills and ecosystems to ensure a fair and inclusive transition to the future of the world of work. In particular, professional development programs, professional retraining, vocational training, courses, lectures, seminars, trainings – all this updates and complements the professional knowledge of a specialist.
The denial team argues that a higher level of education and its quality do not necessarily improve employment opportunities. In advanced economies, young people with a higher level of education achieve better results in employment, and in low- and middle-income countries they are actually more likely to be out of work than those with a lower level of education. In these
In some countries, investments in education and vocational training give low returns because the creation of decent jobs lags behind the supply of professional competencies and skills, or because the qualifications of graduates in their structure do not correspond to demand. The team highlighted weaknesses: low participation of the population in non-formal education; low quality of non-formal education; insufficient motivation to receive continuing education.
The approval team, in turn, noted the strengths, such as: the functioning of the system of vocational training and retraining of the unemployed population; the implementation of the Silver University program, etc.
The participants demonstrated excellent public speaking skills and extensive knowledge in the field of current trends in education.
As a result of the debate, the students were awarded diplomas and certificates of appreciation.
